Kentaro Miura
Kentaro Miura debuted a 48-page manga known as Berserk Prototype in 1988, which served as an introduction to the Berserk fantasy world. This work won him a prize from the Comi Manga School. In 1989, after receiving a doctorate degree, Miura began a project titled King of Wolves based on a script by Buronson, the writer of Hokuto no Ken (Fist of the North Star).
In 1990, the first volume of Berserk was released, achieving limited success. Miura again collaborated with Buronson on a manga titled Japan. Miura’s fame grew significantly after Berserk’s “The Golden Age” story arc, and the immense success of this masterpiece established him as one of the most prominent contemporary manga artists.
In 1997, Miura supervised the production of 25 anime episodes of Berserk, which aired on NTV that same year. The series has also spawned a wide range of merchandise, including statues, action figures, key rings, video games, and a trading card game. In 2002, Kentaro Miura received second place in the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize of Excellence for Berserk.
