About The Author

Kentaro Miura

Kentaro Miura debuted his first manga, Berserk Prototype, in 1988 while attending Nihon University. This 48-page work served as an introduction to the world that would later become Berserk. The manga won Miura a prize from the Comi Manga School.

After earning his doctorate degree in 1989, Miura began a project titled King of Wolves, collaborating with Buronson, the writer of Hokuto no Ken (Fist of the North Star).

The first volume of Berserk was released in 1990, achieving modest success. Miura later reunited with Buronson for another manga, Japan. Miura’s popularity surged with the “The Golden Age” story arc of Berserk, cementing his reputation as one of the most prominent contemporary manga artists.

In 1997, Miura oversaw the production of a 25-episode anime adaptation of Berserk, which aired on NTV that year. The series has inspired a wide range of merchandise, including statues, action figures, key rings, video games, and a trading card game.

In 2002, Kentaro Miura received second place in the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize of Excellence for Berserk. He resides in Tokyo, Japan.
