Kentaro Miura
Kentaro Miura debuted a 48-page manga known as Berserk Prototype in 1988 while attending Nihon University. This work served as an introduction to the fantasy world that would later become the basis for Berserk. Berserk Prototype earned Miura a prize from the Comi Manga School.
In 1989, after receiving his doctorate, Miura began a project titled King of Wolves. This manga was based on a script by Buronson, the writer of Hokuto no Ken (Fist of the North Star).
The first volume of Berserk was released in 1990, achieving limited initial success. Miura collaborated with Buronson again on a manga titled Japan. Miura’s fame significantly increased after Berserk began its “The Golden Age” story arc. The immense success of this masterpiece established him as one of the most prominent contemporary manga artists.
In 1997, Miura supervised the production of 25 anime episodes of Berserk, which aired on NTV that same year. The series has since spawned a wide range of merchandise, including statues, action figures, key rings, video games, and a trading card game.
In 2002, Kentaro Miura received second place in the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize of Excellence for Berserk. He resided in Tokyo, Japan.
