Steve Winter
Steve Winter is a National Geographic wildlife photojournalist with over 20 years of experience documenting some of the world’s most elusive and iconic animals, specializing in big cats. His documentary films on jaguars, leopards, tigers, and tree-climbing lions have been featured on Nat Geo WILD. He has been recognized by the BBC as both Wildlife Photographer and Wildlife Photojournalist of the Year. Steve has appeared on numerous media outlets including 60 Minutes, CBS Nightly News, NPR, BBC, and CNN, and has spoken internationally on topics of big cats, conservation, and photojournalism. He has co-authored two previous books with Sharon Guynup: Tigers Forever and The Ultimate Book of Big Cats. His renowned photograph of the cougar P-22 beneath the Hollywood sign brought the animal widespread fame and contributed to the development of the world’s largest wildlife overpass. Steve and Sharon Guynup reside in Hoboken, New Jersey.
Sharon Guynup
Sharon Guynup is an accomplished journalist, photographer, producer, and presenter whose work focuses on wildlife, ecosystems, conservation efforts, climate change, and broader environmental issues. Her contributions have been published in prominent outlets such as National Geographic, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Smithsonian, and Scientific American. As a global fellow with the Wilson Center’s Environmental Change and Security Program and China Environment Forum, Sharon dedicated nine years to exploring the intersection of environmental concerns and public policy. In 2025, she and Steve Winter were honored with the National Geographic Society’s Eliza Scidmore Award for Outstanding Storytelling. In addition to her collaborative books with Steve Winter, Sharon conceived and launched The State of the Wild book series for the Wildlife Conservation Society. Sharon Guynup and Steve Winter make their home in Hoboken, New Jersey.
