Eric Hill
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014) was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot. He began his artistic career as an art studio messenger, later becoming a cartoonist and eventually, an art director at a prominent advertising agency. In 1978, Eric conceived a bedtime story for his son about a small puppy, thus creating Spot.
He published Where’s Spot? in 1980. This interactive children’s book featured an innovative lift-the-flap format, a simple narrative, and charming, distinctive illustrations. Its immediate success inspired him to pursue a full-time career as an author. Spot books have since been cherished by children globally and have also been adapted into audio books, animations, toys, and games.
