Eric Hill
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014) was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot. He began his artistic career as an art studio messenger, later becoming a cartoonist and eventually an art director at a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Eric devised a bedtime story about a small puppy for his son, and thus Spot was created. He published Where’s Spot? in 1980, an interactive children’s book that featured a groundbreaking lift-the-flap format alongside a simple narrative and engaging, distinctive illustrations. The book’s immediate success led him to pursue a career as a full-time author. Since then, Spot books have been cherished by children globally, alongside adaptations such as audiobooks, animation, toys, and games.
