About The Author

Eric Hill

Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014)

Eric Hill was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot. He began his artistic journey as an art studio messenger, later transitioning to a career as a cartoonist and eventually serving as an art director at a prominent advertising agency.

In 1978, Eric conceived a story about a small puppy to share with his son during bedtime, and thus, Spot was created. His first book, Where’s Spot?, was published in 1980. This interactive children’s book featured an innovative lift-the-flap format, accompanied by a simple narrative and charming, distinctive illustrations. The immediate success of Where’s Spot? inspired Eric to pursue writing full-time. Since then, Spot books have delighted children globally, and the character has expanded into audiobooks, animation, toys, and games.
