Joseph A. Romano, Pharm.D.
Joseph A. Romano, Pharm.D., has over 25 years of experience in health care as a practitioner, educator, and administrator. He currently serves as vice chairman of Nelson Communications Inc., a global health-care communications company. In this role, he chairs/partners two business sectors: SCIENS Worldwide Healthcare Communications and Nelson Professional Sales. Dr. Romano’s previous academic career includes his tenure as an associate dean and associate professor at the University of Washington in Seattle. He also lectures as adjunct faculty at several institutions and has authored numerous professional papers and two textbooks on pharmacy and pharmacology. Dr. Romano resides in the Princeton, New Jersey, area with his wife and two children.
Gary W. Elmer, Ph.D.
Gary W. Elmer, Ph.D., is an associate professor of medicinal chemistry at the University of Washington School of Pharmacy. He earned his B.S. in pharmacy and M.S. in pharmacognosy from the University of Connecticut and his Ph.D. from Rutgers University. Dr. Elmer co-authored the vitamin and mineral chapter in the Handbook of Nonprescription Drugs and has published and lectured widely on dietary supplements and their appropriate use. His research at the University of Washington focuses on herbal/drug interactions and the use of biotherapeutic agents (probiotics) in treating infectious diseases.
