Erving Polster
Erving Polster, PhD
Erving Polster, PhD, is a renowned teacher of Gestalt therapy, attracting students from around the world to his home in San Diego. He is the author of five books, including the seminal work Gestalt Therapy Integrated: Contours of Theory & Practice, as well as Uncommon Ground: To Enhance Everyday Living and From the Radical Center: The Heart of Gestalt Therapy. He has also contributed numerous chapters to anthologies. Together with his late wife, Miriam Polster, he co-directed the Gestalt Training Center of San Diego.
Miriam Polster
Miriam Polster was a dedicated teacher and Gestalt therapist. Alongside her husband, Erving Polster, she founded the Gestalt Training Center in La Jolla, California. In her youth, Dr. Polster was a gifted soprano and earned a bachelor’s degree in music from Miami University of Ohio. She completed her doctorate at Case Western Reserve University in 1967. Beyond her contributions to Gestalt therapy, she authored the book Eve’s Daughters: The Forbidden Heroism of Women. Her distinguished career was recognized with a certificate of special recognition from the US House of Representatives in 1999 and the Lifelong Commitment to Gestalt Therapy Award in 2000 from the Gestalt Therapy Conference in Montreal.
