What They're Saying

Critics Review

“Blakely invites us into Zanuso’s Milanese home and—chapter by chapter, room by room—weaves a complex microhistory of postwar design that explains the intersections of architecture, interiors, furniture, and furnishings in the first decades of the Italian Republic.”
—David Rifkind, Dean, College of Architecture and Planning, University of Colorado Denver, author of The Battle for Modernism: Quadrante and the Politicization of Architectural Discourse in Fascist Italy and co-editor of A Critical History of Contemporary Architecture, 1960–2010.

“This book examines an extraordinary experiment in buon governo enacted by Marco Zanuso in his own living environment. As a perceptive insider, Shantel Blakely captures this serendipitous encounter with immediacy and nuance.”
—Maristella Casciato, Senior Curator, Head of Architectural Collections, Getty Research Institute, Los Angeles
