Eric Hill
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014) was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot. He began his artistic career as an art studio messenger, later becoming a cartoonist and eventually an art director at a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Eric devised a story about a small puppy to read to his son at bedtime, and Spot was born. He published Where’s Spot? in 1980, an interactive children’s book featuring a pioneering lift-the-flap format, a simple narrative, and charming, quirky illustrations. The book’s immediate success led Eric to pursue a career as a full-time author.
Spot books have since been enjoyed by children worldwide and have been adapted into audio books, animations, toys, and games.
