Eric Hill
Eric Hill OBE (1927-2014) was the creator of the beloved children’s character Spot.
He began his artistic journey as an art studio messenger before transitioning to become a cartoonist. Later, he served as an art director at a prominent advertising agency.
In 1978, Eric conceived a story about a small puppy for his son’s bedtime reading, and thus, Spot was created. His first book, “Where’s Spot?”, was published in 1980. This interactive children’s book featured an innovative lift-the-flap format, complemented by a simple narrative and endearing, whimsical illustrations.
The immediate success of “Where’s Spot?” inspired Eric to pursue a career as a full-time author. Since then, Spot books have delighted children globally, leading to adaptations in audio books, animation, toys, and games.
