Summary

Rudyard Kipling
Rudyard Kipling was born in Bombay in 1865. In 1882, he began his career as a journalist in India, where he produced a significant body of work including stories, sketches, and poems. His collection Plain Tales from the Hills (1888) brought him immediate literary fame upon his return to England in 1889.
Among his most celebrated works are The Jungle Book (1894), Kim (1901), and Just So Stories (1902). Kipling declined the position of Poet Laureate and other civic honors but became the first English writer to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1907. He passed away in 1936.

He is the author of Colonial Transactions: English Literature and India (1993) and has co-edited The Nation across the World: Postcolonial Literary Representations (2007) and Literature and Nation: Britain and India 1800-1990 (2000).
