Summary

Samuel Johnson
Dr. Samuel Johnson was born on 18 September 1709 and died on 13 December 1784. He was one of England’s greatest literary figures, renowned as a poet, essayist, biographer, lexicographer, and critic.
Johnson is best known for his monumental work, the Dictionary of the English Language (1755). He also contributed significantly to periodical literature with his essays for The Rambler (1750-1752) and The Idler (1758-1760). His critical acumen is showcased in his Lives of the Most Eminent English Poets (1781), a seminal work in literary criticism.
