About The Author
Emma Mulholland
Emma Mulholland is a solicitor admitted to the Roll in 2013, having cross-qualified from being called to the Bar of The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple in 2006. Emma has worked in several busy law practices, specialising primarily in civil and commercial litigation, and has undertaken a considerable amount of advocacy work in both the County Court and the High Court.
Emma also taught at BPP University Law School from 2014 to 2017, acting as a tutor on the LLB (Contract Law, Law of Torts and Professional Skills in Practice), the Graduate Diploma in Law (Contract Law), and the Legal Practice Course (Civil Litigation). Emma was also appointed as a Supervising Solicitor for BPP’s pro bono unit. While working at BPP, Emma attained Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.
Emma left practice in 2020 and is now engaged with legal research, writing, and the assessment of students’ examinations and coursework.
John Bates is an Assistant Professor at Northumbria Law School, where he leads several modules, including Tort Law, across all of the school’s programmes, and on several modules, including Civil Litigation and Evidence, on the Bar Training Course at the school. He previously led the Civil Litigation module on the integrated MLaw degree programme. He is a qualified solicitor, admitted in 1997, and a former Dispute Resolution Partner in private practice (now non-practising) whose teaching and research interests focus on torts, civil dispute resolution, professional practice, and autonomous systems. He has led the law school’s Open/Distance Learning, Law with Business, and Law with International Business programmes and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
