About The Author

Weizeng Shao

Weizeng Shao is a full professor at Shanghai Ocean University. He has extensive experience in marine applications of synthetic aperture radar (SAR), particularly with data from Chinese satellites such as Gaofen-3, HY-2, and CFOSat. His work includes a stint as a visiting research scientist at the German Aerospace Center in Munich, where he collaborated with their SAR oceanography group.

From 2015 to 2020, Shao was an associate professor and supervised master’s students at Zhejiang Ocean University in Zhoushan. Since 2019, he has also served as an assistant researcher at the National Satellite Ocean Application Service in Beijing.

His current research interests encompass the ocean modeling of tropical cyclones using coupled numerical models. Since 2024, he has taken on editorial roles as an editor for the Journal of Ocean University of China and as a guest advisor for GIScience & Remote Sensing.
