About The Author

Walter Scott

Sir Walter Scott (1771 - 1832) was born and educated in Edinburgh. From 1799 until his death he was Sheriff of Selkirkshire. Scott’s poetry brought him great acclaim, but he rejected the Poet Laureateship in 1813 and turned towards fiction, devising a new form that was to dominate the early 19th century novel. He became a baronet in 1820.
