Critics Review
Nothing, though, felt as original or resonant as I Will Haunt This, by Viviane Schwarz and illustrated by The Observer’s political cartoonist Chris Riddell (Walker Books, £8.99, published 24 September). The story centres on a ghost who finds itself without anything to haunt. In its search for something new, it makes an unlikely friend in a little girl who that day has struggled to draw something and, in frustration, has scratched and scribbled it out. This is a tender tale of how items can carry meaning and importance, and of appreciating the things we make, be it through creative pursuits or by spending time with one another. – Caitlin O’Kane * The Observer *
Schwarz’s affectionate story, illustrated by Riddell, offers a gentle alternative for Halloween, with warmth and companionship taking the place of shivers. For children curious about ghosts but wary of frights, here is the comforting possibility that a haunting might bring a friend. – Paul Kane and Marianne Doherty * Scotland on Sunday *
A captivating story with beautiful art work. My 3 and 5 year old loved it, asking me to read it again and again….and again!! * NetGalley Reviewer *
A scrumptious reminder that human made things are the PERFECT places for a lil’ haunting and a home for hope and creativity.
A bizarrely beautiful human story with ethereal illustrations from Chris.
The illustrations were adorable and left my son wishing for a little ghost friend of his own. I think this is one of the most charming children’s picture books I’ve come across and would definitely recommend. * NetGalley Reviewer *
