Val Wood
Val Wood’s debut novel, The Hungry Tide, earned her the Catherine Cookson Prize for Fiction, launching her into popularity across the UK.
Born in the mining town of Castleford, Val moved to East Yorkshire as a child. She has resided in Hull and the rural area of Holderness, the settings for many of her novels. She currently lives in the market town of Beverley.
When not writing, Val actively promotes libraries and supports various charities. In recognition of her service and dedication to literature, she was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Hull in 2017.
