Val Wood
Val Wood is one of the UK’s most popular authors, a success that began with her first novel, The Hungry Tide, which won the Catherine Cookson Prize for Fiction.
Born in the mining town of Castleford, Val moved to East Yorkshire as a child. She has lived in both Hull and rural Holderness, regions that feature prominently in many of her novels. She currently resides in the market town of Beverley.
When not writing, Val dedicates her time to promoting libraries and supporting various charities. In recognition of her service and dedication to literature, she was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Hull in 2017.
