Tsutomu Nihei won the prestigious Jiro Taniguchi Special Prize for a short story that eventually led to his 1997 series BLAME!. BLAME! and its prequel NOiSE won accolade after accolade, and that success led to Nihei working with a wide variety of properties, including the global video game phenomenon Halo and pop culture juggernaut Marvel Comics.
