Critics Review
Praise for The Romanov Rescue: “… this alternate history employs vibrant steampunk vibes and aptly captures the uncertainties of the tumultuous era, as well as the courageous desperation of the world-weary men and women involved. Fans of detailed and technical military fiction will enjoy this, as well as those who appreciate real historical figures as characters.” —Library JournalPraise for Tom Kratman and the Carrera series: “[I]nterplanetary warfare with … [a] visceral story of bravery and sacrifice … fans of the military SF of John Ringo and David Weber should enjoy this SF action adventure.” —Library Journal “Kratman’s dystopia is a brisk page turner full of startling twists … [Kratman is] a professional military man … up to speed on military and geopolitical conceits. ” —Mark Steyn, best-selling author of America Alone, on Caliphate “Kratman raises disquieting questions on what it might take to win the war on terror … realistic action sequences, strong characterizations, and thoughts on the philosophy of war.” —Publishers Weekly “[Baen publisher] Toni [Weisskopf] and I disagree about everything except about how good his books are.” —John Birmingham
About The Author
Tom Kratman
Tom Kratman became a political refugee and defector from the PRM (People’s Republic of Massachusetts) in 1974, at age seventeen, by joining the Regular Army. He served as an infantryman for most of his adult life, returning to Massachusetts as an unofficial dissident while attending Boston College after his first enlistment. Back in the Army, he experienced a wide range of roles. After the Gulf War, Tom decided to become a lawyer, as the anti-communist market had collapsed. Periodically, when the frustrations of legal practice and dealing with other lawyers became overwhelming, Tom would rejoin the Army (or a similar organization) for adventure in different locations. His family endured this for years. He no longer practices law and now writes full-time for Baen Books.
His novels for Baen include A State of Disobedience, Caliphate, and the series comprising A Desert Called Peace, Carnifex, The Lotus Eaters, The Amazon Legion, Come and Take Them, The Rods and the Axe, and A Pillar of Fire by Night. He has co-authored the novels Watch on the Rhine, Yellow Eyes, and The Tuloriad with John Ringo. Kratman has also written the first three volumes of the modern-day military fiction series Countdown for Baen. Recently, he co-authored The Romanov Reign Series with Kacey Ezell and Justin Watson.
Kacey Ezell writes emotionally charged adventure fantasy and science fiction. She is a three-time Dragon Award Finalist for Best Alternate History and won the 2018 Year’s Best Military and Adventure Science Fiction Readers’ Choice Award. She has authored multiple best-selling novels published by Chris Kennedy Publishing, Baen Books, and Blackstone Publishing. Ezell is also a retired helicopter pilot with over 3000 flight hours in the UH-1N Huey, Mi-171, and EC130 helicopters. She is married with two daughters.
Justin Watson grew up as an Army brat, living in various locations including Germany, Alabama, Texas, Korea, Colorado, and Alaska. His childhood was filled with X-Men, Star Trek, Robert Heinlein, DragonLance, and Babylon 5. While attending West Point, he met his future wife, Michele, on an airplane. With her encouragement, he began writing in earnest. He graduated from West Point in 2005 and served as a field artillery officer, completing combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, and earning the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Combat Action Badge. Medically retired from the Army in 2015, Justin and Michele settled in Houston with their four children and an overly friendly Old English Sheepdog.
