About The Author
Timothy M. Pawlik
Dr. Timothy M. Pawlik, MD, PhD, MPH, MTS, MBA, FACS, FSSO is the Chair of Surgery at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center where he holds The Urban Meyer III and Shelley Meyer Chair for Cancer Research. His research focuses on determinations of factors associated with prognosis and staging of gastrointestinal cancers with a particular focus on cholangiocarcinoma. He also studies patient/physician communication and patient engagement, as well as patient perception of cancer-care goals and the impact of social determinants of health. Dr. Pawlik is an active participant in multiple national and international surgical societies and has delivered talks on cholangiocarcinoma around the world.
Dr. Shishir K. Maithel, MD, FACS, FSSO is the William T. Bovie Professor of Surgery, Chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology and Chief Surgical Oncology Officer of the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center at Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine. His clinical and research interests focus on tumors of the bile ducts, as well as other gastrointestinal malignancies such as cancer of the liver, pancreas, stomach, colon, and small intestine. He is an active member of the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation and is leading the effort in running novel clinical trials for patients with early-stage biliary cancers.
