Thomas Jefferson Knight was the only son of Newton Knight. He wrote The Life and Activities of Captain Newt Knight in order to provide a candid portrait of his father.

Ethel Knight was a Mississippi historian and the grand-niece of Newton Knight.

Jim Kelly is a historian, film consultant and the former dean of Jones County Junior College in Jones County, Mississippi. He currently lives in New Orleans, Louisiana.
