Critics Review
If you enjoy painting with acrylics, then you will want this book. The smoothness, and the colour range available in acrylics can be used to brilliant effect in landscape paintings. This is where Terry Harrison scores, as he is well experienced in landscape painting. The book explains clearly what various brushes can be used for and all the different techniques needed for landscape painting. By using a range of brushes such as half rigger and Fan Gogh brushes, he shows how intricate detail like window frames, or scraping out bark texture can really make a picture come alive. A range of step by step demonstration landscapes show just what can be achieved - and how to do it. Detailed instructions are given to create intriguing scenes such as a coastal view, winter scene, Venice and landscape with barn. An extremely useful book, ideal for artists of all abilities.-Monstersandcritics.com Terry Harrison has earned a reputation for his straightforward approach to painting, priding himself on his lack of technical jargon that can overwhelm the beginner. Terry’s latest book bears testament to this, and aims to introduce readers to the exciting and versatile medium of acrylic. Terry understands the needs of those new to painting and over the years has developed a range of brushes and paints to help students create the desired effect with the minimum amount of effort. Using these materials, Terry explains how to mix colour, use his bespoke brushes and the techniques necessary to paint specific subjects, such as reflections, snow, distance, etc. Chapters follow on using texture pastes, glaze medium and painting knives, before Terry embarks on a series of step-by-step demonstrations, including a winter scene, summer landscape, and wisteria.-Leisure Painter
