Kept me awake ALL night!

I intentionally started this book late enough that I would have time to dive in fully yet have a plenty to look forward to reading the next day. That plan went out the window as I realized there was no way to put this book down and just ... go to sleep. I needed to know what was going on, and WHO was terrifying the exhausted, tormented EM. Just when I thought I KNEW... I turned the page, and I DIDN'T! Hello intrigue... goodbye sleep. Once again, Tara Marlow has written characters I feel like I want to know in real life, and given them challenges I definitely DO NOT want to know. This is suspense masterfully crafted and told. Five SHINING stars!

Before you open this book please, PLEASE heed my warning. Block off a chunk of time just for you. If you have kids and/or pets, get a sitter. Go to the bathroom then grab your favorite beverage and some snacks and begin. Why you ask? Because you will not be able to stop once you get started. This book grabs right on page one and never lets go. And the short chapters put in randomly will scare the heck out of you! Just a few short lines and they reach right down into your soul with icy fingers, they are that effective! I'm not exaggerating. Think Alfred Hitchcock popped out from beyond and directed this book! This is definitely one book I will never forget. And now I'm off to see what else this wonderful author has done!

I refuse to use the word "unputdownable" (because it's not a word) but if I did use it, that would be an excellent descriptor for Tara Marlow's new book. I love a good suspense novel and The Housesitter did not disappoint!

The main character, Em, is one of those people who at first glance might seem difficult to like (wealthy wife of a movie star--must be rough!) but as you get to know her better, it becomes obvious that she's just a person with a very public life she can't escape from, try as she might. As so many of us do, she just wants some peace and quiet but her life isn't working out like that. How that escalates and who's behind it all is the crux of Em's story. Fortunately she's got some lovely friends, neighbours, and gorgeous dogs to help her through it all.
