Swami Paramananda (1884-1940)
Swami Paramananda was a pioneering Indian teacher who traveled to the United States to disseminate the philosophy and religion of Vedanta. In 1909, he established “Message of the East,” the first Vedanta periodical in the United States. This magazine, which ran for 55 years, featured articles, poetry, and commentary on various religions.
Paramananda authored translations of the Bhagavad Gita and The Upanishads. He also published four volumes of mystical poetry: “The Vigil,” “Rhythm of Life,” “Soul’s Secret Door,” and “My Creed,” in addition to numerous other books and publications.
