The Killing Hole is a Gen X coming-of-age drama turned upside-down.
Set in 1979 in an isolated planned community of Northern Virginia, 14-year-old Stewart is a lonely and neglected child of divorce. Living in a shabby apartment with his alcoholic working mother (and always absent older sister), he languishes in school, side-stepping bullies and cliques. He notices a new kid at school, Peter, who has it even worse than he does, and the two begin to form an inseparable bond in their mutual hatred of everyone and everything else, especially the worst of all the bullies, the local drug dealer, David Hayes. But as their friendship deepens, things take a very dark turn.
"All I can say is 'damn.' What a book. "—Dan Butcher, creator of Vanguard
"The library of Dark & Twisted has been reliably entertaining, with a wide variety of horror and thriller stories. The same could be said for Steve Niles’ body of work. So I think we might be in for something really special with this release." — Daniel Craddock, Macabre Daily
"The artwork by Trevor Denham (with coloring by Ryan Winn and penciling by Janice Chiang) is where The Killing Hole stands out. It has that washed-out, gritty 1970s horror movie look to it, with lots of time spent in small dark spaces that reflect the boy's mood. ... You might be pleasantly surprised by the story. I know I was." — Mat Brewster, Cinema Sentries
"A haunting graphic novel about death and its consequences."—Foreword Reviews
"Horror fans will pick this up just to bask in the angsty art."—Publishers Weekly
