What They're Saying

Critics Review

“This is a must-read book not only for historians of post-independence Mexico but also for anyone interested in the development of modern societies and animal-human relations. From his first page Neufeld draws the reader into a world in which understanding humanity and human historical development requires reckoning with how we categorize and treat the animals with whom we share our urban, suburban, and rural spaces. Neufeld’s innovative approach, captivating stories, and wry wit will appeal to general audiences and academics alike.” – Steven B. Bunker, author of Creating Mexican Consumer Culture in the Age of Porfirio Díaz
