Summary

What is democracy? Have our democratic societies turned into a form of totalitarianism? If so, how do they get away with it?

The past is forgotten, and the future is without hope. Dystopia has become a reality. Capitalism and historical revisionism are part of the fabric of this new world of normalized apocalyptic politics. Our passivity is guaranteed if we believe there is no future - this is a radical manifesto for hope in democracy, union and internationalism.

Critics Review

“The perfect medicine for left-wing melancholia.” –Alfonso Cuar

Infused with a contagious enthusiasm and optimism that never ignores the grim reality of our present, Poetry from the Future is a radical call for action. The perfect medicine for left-wing melancholia.—Alfonso CuarónAmbiguous histories, temporal framings that do not follow standard epochs, unexpected combinations of events, are just some of the surprises and unsettlements that Srecko Horvat gives us in this radically original book.—Saskia Sassen, author of EXPULSIONSThese captivating reflections lead us on a journey, painful and inspiring, from the first moments of liberation of Europe from fascist jackboots to the resistance taking form today to the stultifying current occupation of capitalist cultural hegemony and internalized controls. The culmination is a call “to project the spirit of this past struggle into the future” in order to create “a new nonaligned movement against capital” - a compelling vision, an urgent necessity, and not beyond reach.—Noam ChomskyA charismatic Croatian philosopher—Oliver StoneOne of the most exciting voices of his generation—Das FreitagThank fuck Horvat has taken it upon himself to create new worlds—VICEThe young Croatian philosopher Srecko Horvat is just as much a doer as a thinker. He is searching for ‘the poetry from the future’ with impetuous energy—Filosofie Magazine
