Summary
The scope of nanotechnology in medical applications has expanded fast in the last two decades. With unprecedented materialistic properties, nanoscale materials present with unorthodox opportunities in a wide range of domains, including drug delivery and medical imaging. This book assembles the various facets of nanomedicine and discusses the key issues, including physicochemical properties that enhance the appeal of nanomedicine. Since the publication of the first edition in 2019, the field of nanomedicine has continued to evolve at a rapid pace. This updated edition captures some of the new developments in the field. It begins with a short history of nanotechnology and a discussion on the fundamental concepts about the extraordinary properties demonstrated by nanoscale materials and then unfolds into multiple chapters that illustrate the uses of different nanomaterials in drug delivery, sensing, and imaging. The book is an excellent resource for physicians, PhDs, postdocs, and general readers involved in nanomedicine research to learn and understand the scope and complexity of the subject.

Critics Review
“From foundational principles to translational challenges, Principles of Nanomedicine elegantly captures the promise and complexity of nanomedicine in a rapidly evolving scientific landscape.”
Prof. Ishan Barman
Johns Hopkins University, USA
“I am glad to note that Principles of Nanomedicine has come a long way, and the second edition of this popular book among researchers, especially early-career researchers, is about to be published after a 7-year hiatus since its original publication. This new edition is revised and expanded with new information and chapters that reflect progress in the field. I hope this edition will meet expectations and gain popularity within the research community while preparing the next generation of researchers to guide future innovations in the field.”
Prof. D. Ceri Davies
Cambridge University, UK
“Informative and improved: This second edition of Principles of Nanomedicine continues to achieve excellence and encourages the future generation of researchers in the field…many more editions to come in this journey and wishing all the best!”
Prof. Dimitri Scholz
University College Dublin, Ireland

Sourav Bhattacharjee
Sourav Bhattacharjee graduated in medicine (MBBS) in 2002 from the Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata, India. He obtained his MSc in biomolecular sciences from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Netherlands (2006–2008). His major thesis work focused on investigating the pulmonary toxicity of air-borne nanoparticulate materials in Edinburgh, UK.
He completed his PhD (2008–2012) with a very good thesis grade from Wageningen University, Netherlands, specializing in nanomedicine and nanotoxicology. Dr Bhattacharjee joined University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland, as a postdoc in 2014. In February 2016, he was appointed an assistant professor at UCD, where he teaches anatomy and conducts research in nanomedicine, drug delivery, and biophotonics.
