Sir James Knowles
Sir James Knowles (1831-1908) conducted a successful career as an architect while pursuing his literary interests. He and Tennyson founded the Metaphysical Society, an organization dedicated to discovering common ground between religion and science.
Louis Rhead (1857-1926), the scion of a noted family of Staffordshire potters, began his career as a ceramic artist. He was a prominent figure in the poster art craze of the 1890s and remains best known for his illustrations for children’s books.
