What They're Saying
Critics Review
Shivi’s food is bright, colourful and hugely evocative of the deliciously spiced ‘Caribbean’ food that I have grown to love whenever I visit that part of the world. I want to eat everything in this book. * Thomasina Miers *It’s here! It’s here! Shivi Ramoutar’s AMAZING debut book. * Sabrina Ghayour *Shivi specialises in light, modern recipes that showcase the most vibrant ingredients from the area and her new book celebrates this type of cooking, while remaining true to the hospitable Caribbean spirit. * Telegraph Food *If you’ve got the music, the flipflops, the shades and the sunny disposition, all you need is a spread of something special and you’ll be ‘liming’. Liming, as Trinidadian supperclub host Shivi Ramoutar puts it, is the specifically Trinidadian art of doing nothing, accompanied by bountiful food and drink. Ramoutar’s debut cookbook is brimming with recipes that can make that happen: buttermilk fried chicken, jerk pulled pork and watermelon salad, crab backs and fried bakes, all bold flavours and bright colours to bring the islands to your picnic rug. * Guardian Cook *Caribbean Modern should convince any doubters that there is far more to the cooking of the rum islands than jerk chicken and mutton curry. * House & Garden *
About The Author
Shivi Ramoutar
Shivi was born in Trinidad into a colourful family and was brought up between the beaches, the Leicestershire countryside, and London, where she has now settled. She left a career in law to pursue her passion for food. Her favourite pastimes are playing the piano, writing songs, and tap dancing. She lives with her husband and her three children in a house of utter chaos.
The Guardian dubbed her a ‘Caribbean Food Supremo’, while British Airways’ The Club magazine calls her the ‘Queen of Contemporary Caribbean Cooking’. She has shared her unique approach to Caribbean food across London and the UK, via her supper club, restaurant and brand collaborations, and in various publications.
Shivi can regularly be found cooking her tropical fare on TV, appearing on Saturday Kitchen, James Martin’s Saturday Mornings, and This Morning, as well as in her own series, Jimmy and Shivi’s Farmhouse Breakfast, which airs on Saturday mornings on ITV.
Shivi is also a spokesperson for promoting tourism in the Caribbean at Caribbean events for both travel and food publications throughout the UK.
