What They're Saying

Critics Review

In this spirited manual, Moore (Ending Human Trafficking) and Castleberry Hux (Divine Treasure) provide guidance on how women can navigate the second half of their lives. The authors met when executive coach Castleberry Hux took on Moore as a client at the Halftime Institute, which offers consulting services for middle-aged people. Sharing client stories and anecdotes from their own midlife transitions, the authors outline a “four-stage process to help you get unstuck and moving toward your dreams.” It encourages readers to “get clear” about their values, overcome fear of failure, find one’s place in God’s plan, and take action. Moore laments how her “limiting belief” that she was a fraud led her to prematurely leave an exclusive seminar, and she urges readers to “process your defeatist thoughts” by talking them through with a friend. The exercises are easy to follow and include enumerating “five things you are most grateful for” and pondering what role God played in them to help illuminate one’s priorities. However, the client stories’ focus on wealthy women can make the benefits of this program feel out of reach, as is the case with a client whose background as a former bank manager prepared her to establish a charitable foundation as her midlife pivot. Still, this has some worthwhile recommendations for how women can find purpose in middle age.–Publishers Weekly
