Dr. Shahidul Islam is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He is a distinguished expert in the field of diabetes and has been recognized with numerous awards, including accolades from the International Endocrine Society.

With over 30 years of dedicated experience in research and teaching, Professor Islam has made significant contributions to the scientific community. He has published extensively in international peer-reviewed journals, with more than 200 research articles, including 11 reviews since 2004. Additionally, he has authored 14 peer-reviewed book chapters.

Professor Islam serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the “World Journal of Diabetes.” His research excellence has been acknowledged globally; he was recognized as one of the Global Top 2% researchers by Mandeley in 2019 and as one of the Global Top 0.016% researchers in the area of Experimental Diabetes Mellitus by Expert Escape in 2021.

He has a strong track record of mentorship, having successfully supervised the research projects of over 45 Postdoctoral Fellows and students.
