Critic Reviews

“Praise for THE SARTORIALIST: "[Schuman's] eye is discerning but it doesn't discriminate: the quirky, the refined, the interesting, the elegant, the chic and the sometimes outrageous, all show very simply on the street, come together in a visual history of the fashion business, marking our place in the timeline of style . . . chock full of photographs you will want to pore over with friends . . . Make room on your bookshelf." -- The New York Times "The Moment" blog "At last a selection of Schuman's best images have been collected in one place. . . . The Sartorialist works as a collection, not just because the photographs look so crisp and beautiful on paper, but also because each pages cuts a window into another world: Schuman's pictures put fashion in the context of life." --Stephanie Zacharek, Salon.com”

About the Author

Scott Schuman started The Sartorialist simply to share photos of people that he saw on the streets of New York that he thought looked great. Having worked in fashion industry for fifteen years, he felt there was a disconnect between what he was selling in the showroom and what he was seeing people wear in real life. The Sartorialist was his attempt to redress the balance. He began shooting people on the street in a way that he knew most designers hunted for inspiration. The blog has become hugely respected and influential in the fashion industry and beyond. Scott Schuman now shoots regularly for many top fashion magazines around the world, and was picked by Time magazine as a top 100 design influencer.
