Critics Review

“A boundary-pushing romp through the words of the English language.” * Guardian and Observer Best Children’s and YA Books of 2024 *
”[…] intricate, playful picture-book collaboration, layered with whimsical dictionary definitions that slightly older readers will enjoy alongside the main story.” * Guardian *
“A boundary-pushing ode to the wonder of language, Jeffers’ illustrations rip and bounce through actual dictionary entries thanks to Winston’s clever typography and design. Close reading really pays off: the dictionary entries are full of wit and mischief. * Observer *
“Clever, witty with hilarious illustrations.” * Daily Mail *
- Jeffers and Winston have delivered yet another soon-to-be-classic…the best thing about this book is the pages of text which look to have been ripped out of real dictionaries but in fact have been written by the playful authors. * The Big Issue, Best Children’s Books of 2024 *
