She is to be commended for her selection of distinctive stories which illustrate the various means by which these intrepid women made this journey whether on bicycle or in by sea, braving danger from rogue waves or from strangers. But, furthermore, the book considers the implication of these women's achievements, poignantly expressed in the image of the lone woman in space, Valentina Tereshkova, who contemplates the future of mankind as she views the Earth through her window.
