Summary
Kipling had been invited to Italy by the British Ambassador, Sir Rennell Rodd, who was concerned about the lack of understanding in England of the scale and cost of the Italian war effort. Rodd’s proposal was that distinguished writers from England and Italy should visit each other’s front lines and then write about their experiences in the national and allied press. Kipling’s five articles were published in The Daily Telegraph and the New York Tribune. The articles include:

Joseph Rudyard Kipling (1865 - 1936) was an English short-story writer, poet, and novelist.
Born in Bombay, India, Kipling was brought to England by his family at the age of five. He is known for his tales and poems about the British in India, as well as his beloved children’s stories, including The Jungle Book and Just So Stories.
Kipling’s son, John, died in the First World War during the Battle of Loos in September 1915, at the age of 18.
