About The Author

Roy Shephard

Roy J. Shephard, CM, MD, PhD, DPE, FACSM, is an emeritus professor of applied physiology at the University of Toronto. A graduate of Cambridge University in medicine and hygiene, he has also obtained a doctorate in human experimental physiology. Hephard has authored over 750 scientific papers, 150 book chapters, and 68 books, primarily on the topics of exercise physiology, fitness, and health. He has served as a consultant to various organizations, including the World Health Organization and the Canadian government. His research interests include the impact of exercise on chronic diseases, the physiological effects of aging, and the role of physical activity in promoting overall well-being.
