About The Author
Rough Guides
Rough Guides are written by expert authors who are passionate about both writing and travel. They have detailed knowledge of the areas they write about–having either traveled extensively or lived there–and their expertise shines through on every page. It’s priceless information, delivered with wit and insight, providing the down-to-earth, honest read that is the hallmark of Rough Guides.
Thomas Bird has kept himself reasonably busy over two decades spent in East Asia, having edited a magazine in Shenzhen, worked as a newspaper reporter in Taiwan and co-authored over twenty guidebooks and coffee table books. His first book Harmony Express: Travels by Train Through China was published in 2023 by Earnshaw Books. He occasionally prints his musings in the South China Morning Post and other sympathetic publications. When he’s not travelling, or writing, he can be found in a smoky live lounge somewhere pondering the Zhuangzi.
Stuart Butler is a guidebook author, writer and award-winning photographer who has written multiple guidebooks on France. He also writes about Spain, East Africa (where he is the tourism manager of a wildlife conservancy), the Himalayas and South Asia. He lives with his wife and children in the far southwest of France and when not working can be found surfing on the beautiful beaches of Les Landes or hiking in the gorgeous Pyrenees.
Martin Zatko has written or contributed to almost fifty Insight Guides and Rough Guides since making his debut in 2006, including those to Korea, Japan, China, Vietnam, Myanmar, Malaysia, India, Turkey, Greece, Morocco, Australia, Fiji and Egypt.
