A well written chronology of events that happened during the musket war era of New Zealand. This would be a good reference for those studying the wars. But there are no insights to what times were like during these events. At a time in New Zealand’s history when utu seemed to be the prevalence for existence, there’s no insight into the daily life in pre-civilised times. No insights into wartime logistics, no insights into slavery, no insights into cannibalism.
This book is a sanitized version of events. Why the musket wars matter today was not explained for this reader.
