József Nemes Lampérth was a key figure in the avant-garde art movements that emerged in the early twentieth century. The fact that no comprehensive exhibition of modern Hungarian art could open today without featuring at least one of his works is a clear indication of the calibre and far-reaching impact of his artistic output.

József Nemes Lampérth (1891-1924) was a key figure in the avantgarde art movements that emerged in the early twentieth century. The fact that no comprehensive exhibition of modern Hungarian art could open today without featuring at least one of his works is a clear indication of the calibre and far-reaching impact of his artistic output. Although he died at the tragically young age of just thirty-three, leaving behind him a regrettably small oeuvre, there can be no doubt as to his significance and his influence on both his contemporaries and later Hungarian art.
