About The Author
Richard Zachariah
Richard Zachariah began his career as a journalist at the Melbourne Age in 1964. Throughout his life he spent equal time on the land as a farmer and horse breeder, and working in London and Sydney as a newspaper and television journalist and broadcaster. His schoolboy love affair with Victoria’s Western District has grown into a bewilderment at the withdrawal of those dominating pastoral dynasties who so impressed him with their elan and the qualities that allowed them to rule this special place. Richard Zachariah died aged 80 in April 2025.
