"Richard Ayoade is one of the funniest people ever to write a book." Greg Jenner
This witty, sardonic series of letters to and from fairytale figures – the disillusioned Little Mermaid, a split-in-two Rumpelstiltskin, hatched-out Humpty Dumpty, and more – explores life beyond the happily ever after. It’s the 8+ answer to The Jolly Postman. The Guardian
Ayoade’s eccentric, oddball and often childish humour […] transfers to children’s books with aplomb […] The book is beautifully written, full of the kind of silly pedantry that Ayoade’s The IT Crowd character, Moss, would approve of. […] daft laugh-out-loud moments. The Big Issue, Best Children’s Books of 2024
“A wonderful funny book of fairy tales with a twist with equally fabulous illustrations by the brilliant David Roberts.” -- Liz Pichon, author of Tom Gates Liz Pichon
In addition to the text there are a number of textured, sometimes finely detailed sketches as well as vignettes preceding each epistolary exchange; a perfect complement provided by David Roberts. Altogether a very clever, tongue-in-cheek compilation that will appeal to book lovers especially those like me with a penchant for traditional tales. Red Reading Hub
