Quintus Curtius Rufus
Quintus Curtius Rufus was a Roman historian who penned the only surviving Latin biography of Alexander the Great. The precise identity of the author and the exact date of composition have been subjects of considerable scholarly debate. However, recent scholarship suggests that Rufus was a soldier and politician who ascended from humble beginnings to a senatorial position during the reign of Emperor Tiberius (AD 14-37). The downfall of Tiberius’s chief minister, Sejanus, caused a temporary halt to his political career, prompting him to turn to writing.
John Yardley
Born in 1942, John Yardley received his education at the Universities of St Andrews and Oxford. He is currently a Professor of Classics at the University of Ottawa, Canada.
