PopOut was founded in 1993 by Derek Dacey. After witnessing tourists struggling with large maps in Bath, England, he was inspired by the miniature charts he used as a commercial pilot. He assembled a team to create a usable city map, resulting in the first PopOut Map Bath. Following this success, a research trip to the USA led to a redesigned layout with photo images, high-quality printing, and laminated covers. The first US destinations covered in the PopOut range were Boston, NYC, Philadelphia, and Washington DC. Today, PopOut produces over 100 titles for major destinations worldwide.
