About The Author

Peter Spinks

Peter Spinks is a science writer, author, and lecturer with a master’s degree and published research articles in international academic journals. Since 1980, he has broadcast and written for several of the world’s foremost media organisations, including Radio Four and the World Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation, The Guardian and The Observer newspapers, and New Scientist magazine in London.

In 1996, he was appointed science reporter of The Age newspaper in Australia. He now delivers a range of professional media-skills and science-outreach workshops and lectures at leading universities and science research organisations around Australia and other parts of the world.

Peter wrote the science journalism chapter for an international textbook, Science Communication in Theory and Practice (Kluwer Academic Publishers, 2001). Wizards of Oz, his book about breakthroughs by Australian scientists, was twice the No.1 bestseller on New Scientist’s list of top-selling science books.

He also presents highly illustrated and understandable lectures on astrophysics and cosmology at public venues and aboard international cruise ships.
