Travelling to Blenheim, Kathryn is apprehensive about the family drama that will surround her sister Megan's wedding. It is no secret that Kathryn moved to Christchurch five years ago to escape a failed marriage and everything her life had become up to that point, so a family gathering means facing some of those demons.

Distraction arrives in the form of hitchhiker Gabe, who is both charming and cocky in equal measures. When car trouble leaves her stranded in Kaikoura, the two are thrown together for an unexpected, magical evening, one that Kathryn must try to put behind her as she continues her journey, alone.

Focusing instead on her upcoming maid of honour duties, Kathryn ponders what the week ahead will bring. Megan has voiced concerns about the groom's best friend, Kathryn's counterpart in the wedding party, because of his Playboy antics during their university days.
