The world design is fascinating in this one. A unique blend of speculative fiction and sci-fi, Ness keeps you on your toes throughout. One thing I really loved about the book was the transgender representation. You learn through careful revelations that our character may not have always been perceived the way that he is now, but there is no uncertainty around who he is. * fangtastical_fiction via instagram *
A return to New World that those who are familiar with, will be drawn back into featuring it’s signature chaotic universe. It was a refreshing change of pace with new main characters. In saying that it was nice to see that some of the original characters were still present. I’ll admit my favourite aspect of this book was, the vivid writing readers of Patrick’s works will be familiar with. As for me I’ve always found his writing style, to be what I’ve enjoyed most about his books. For me this was a read that was no different. Overall for me as a reader I think it’s a book that for those who are, already familiar with and or are new to this world will get something out of it. I’d recommend adding this to your TBR or shelves, if you’re a fan of Patrick’s or are wanting to explore the world of Chaos Walking. * peculiarly_bookish via instagram *
I really enjoyed this book! The way it was written was very unique. There was also a lot of representation which I applaud - mute MC, transgender MC and indigenous people, and it was done in a way that felt natural and not forced. I feel like the Land represents Australia First Nations people and the relationship between them and the colonisers. I am very keen to continue the series and find out what happens because I need answers to many questions including the cliffhanger! * bookivia via instagram *
Patrick Ness is a class act writer, this story was a rollercoaster to read, fast-paced and the ending has us all guessing what’s coming next.
